Scotty Doggie Feltie

I have been backed up on my blog posts. :( Too much on my to do list. hehe This year's holiday season is overwhelming because I'm a bridesmaid too! :p You guys will see some of the stuff I made because of that role, hopefully. :p

So, I'm taking a few minutes to show you guys this cute little Scotty Dog feltie keychain that I made for a friend who loves Scotties. :)

Pattern: Scotty Dog Softie by AllSorts

It's my first 3D feltie and I thought it would be harder than it was. I always psych myself out. But I like him! I think he came out really cute even without eyes. :p I added a keychain finding to it before I sent it out. :)

Have a nice cool fall weekend everyone!

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival

Today, my family is celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival. It is a Chinese, lunar calendar holiday where we get together with family, eat a lot of yummy food, light lanterns and eat Chinese moon cake. It is also called the Moon Festival because it is on a full moon.

Another story and symbol of this holiday for us is the Rabbit on the Moon, instead of the Man on the Moon. If you want to read that story just click on this link and this link actually has a picture that shows how we see a rabbit on the moon. :) It's a cute story about rewarding sacrifice.

This year I sent a moon cake and a cute bunny pin to my friend, Rachel. She posted about it on her blog too. :) This pin was inspired by the Rabbit on the Moon story. :)

I used art I found online to cut out the rabbit for the pin.

I love the yellow orange color of this moon so, I took yellow felt and dusted it with my pink blush. :) It gave me a very nice color for the moon. :) I also used the blush to give the rabbit ears and cheek some color.

I also want to show you what a Chinese Moon cake looks like. :) If you check out my friend's blog, she shows a more traditional style of moon cake. The filling is normally red bean, green bean, or taro. And it can come with or without a preserved duck egg yoke inside. I had sent my friend a pineapple filled one because she likes pineapple cakes. :)

My moon cake is a Taiwanese style.

It is filled with green bean paste and dry shredded pork. It sounds weird but the salty sweet is very light and yummy! I really like it! And my mom says that this bakery makes it year round instead of just on holidays. Yea! :)

Now, there are a lot of non-traditional moon cakes for the younger generation. Some even have Hello Kitty on it. :p I used to like red bean or lotus with an egg yoke but I think I've found a new favorite. :)

I hope you guys looked up at the beautiful full moon tonight!
Happy Mid-Autumn Moon Festival! :)

Heart Mom feltie & Experiment went wrong

I made a "Heart Mom" feltie keychain with a pocket for a little note for my friend's yard sale. She is selling stuff to raise money for her church trip to El Salvador. They go out there to help build homes for the poor. It is an even more special trip because last year, on the same mission, she didn't know it but she met her now finance. They are getting married in November. :) I'm so happy for them. Since the yard sale is this Saturday, the day before Mother's Day, I thought a few themed items would be nice for last min gift buyers. :)
and this feltie experiment came out so wrong. :p

I was trying to make a dragon onigiri feltie but failed. As you can see, I did not finish it because I didn't like it. I don't know if it is the eyes or the "ears" but it just looks too strange. I do like the back though. It does look like a row of horns down his back or a mohawk. hehe

I like to share some of my failed experiments because when I see other people have tried and failed too, it doesn't make me feel so bad. :) I might try again but with a different design. :)

Good luck with your Mother's Day gift shopping!

Cup of Coco Feltie and Crochet Heart charm

Here are a couple of little crafts that I made in the past few days.

Here is a nice cup of hot coco feltie keychain. :) I drink a lot more hot coco than coffee. Mmmm mmm good. :) I wonder if I should put some mini marshmallows in the coco since that's how I like mine. :) I am also happy to report that my blanket stitch is getting better. :)

Here is a crochet heart cell charm/ fob. I used Sailor Octopus's free pattern. Do you think it would work for a Mother's Day present? I am racking my brain for Mother's Day presents. On the next one, I might add a cute face. :)

Hook: 3.75mm
Yarn: Caron Simply Soft in Autumn Red

Happy Hump Day!

Felt Steampunk Gears Cup Cozy

Here's another item for MobiCon. I saw a pic of some gears on a pillow and thought it would make a cute cup cozy. I didn't know how much work it would be to cut out all the gears and to sew them on, but I think it was well worth it. :)

Sorry, there's not pattern for it. I took apart a paper cup holder from my favorite boba place and used that as a template to cut out the black felt. Then I cut out gears and sewn them on. To hide all the thread and stitches, I cut out a second black cup cozy and sewn the two together. The result is a nicely insulated cup cozy to keep those hot drinks from burning your hands. :)

Chinese Egg Tart Softie

When my friend, Rachel, visited me in California, I introduced her to my favorite Dim Sum restaurant and she got hooked on Chinese Egg Tarts.

Then she saw this cute feltie Egg Tart and fell in love.

While she is really cute, I thought it was an involved pattern so I thought I would make something myself but with a combination of crochet and felt. Here is what I came up with.

Bottom
Side
For the crust I crochet a basic circle and then added ribbing to the sides.
Basic Circle:
R1: In a magic circle 6 sc (6)
R2: 2 sc in each sc around (12)
R3: 1 sc then inc (2 sc in next stitch), repeat around (18)

For the Ribbing, I used this pattern but I only did 4 chains to start and got 3 single crochet long ribbing. I left a long tail and wove through along the inside so that I could tighten it a little so that the sides would be more upright. (Sorry, no picture)
Next came the center. I used yellow felt to cut out a circle shape and put on a face.
I then cut out a circle from the side of an empty tissue box and hot glued it to the bottom for more stability and shape. I stuffed it with poly fill and hot glued the felt face to the crochet crust. Where I had woven through and tighten up, there was a natural "shelf". This is where I put the glue. (Sorry again, no picture)

Before I had woven through and tighten up, the crochet part laid pretty flat and I really liked the look for a coaster. :)

I think my Egg Tart has such a good resemblance to the real thing that now I am craving some yummy egg tarts. hehe So, it's good bye till next time. Sadly, craft month is at an end but I hope you guys don't stop. :)

Steampunk Donut with Gears Icing Feltie

So did anyone guess what I was going to make from the pictures I posted on my W.I.P. sidebar? :)

Templates
Here he is! I think he's cute. But, after I stuffed him, it made the gears pattern not so visible. I think I might put less icing if I make him again but if i did then he can't have eyes. :p.

I didn't have the right color tan for the normal donut so I decided to make him a chocolate donut. :) I did not want to mess with 6mm safety eyes because it's a pain to get the backing on, so I used paper brads instead. ...the Mother of invention. :) I think he looks very surprised. hehe

After looking at him for a while, I thought he was too plain, not enough steampunkness. So, I dressed him up. :) I added a monocle, mustache, and top hat. :)

I don't like the monocle because it was really hard to cut out. I might head to the hardware store to see if there's something I can use instead. Maybe I can find a rubber O-ring or washer or nut or something.

I added a grey mustache because I couldn't figure out what other color to use. I think it makes him look distinguished. :) I put the stach in the middle of the donut hole because everywhere else looked weird.
~~~
If you have or will have a hangover from all that green beer, eat some toast with jelly (the sugar will help your brains work again and the toast settle your stomach), take an aspirin (for the headache), and drink plenty of water (because most likely you will be dehydrated). I hope that helps and have a safe weekend ya'll!
